About

Ioannis Kaskampas obtained his Integrated Master's degree in Computer Engineering and Informatics from the University of Patras (Polytechnic School), in Greece, completing his studies in December 2022 and ranking in the top 15% of his cohort (7.28/10). His thesis focused on implementing a low-cost thermal camera system with real-time hotspot detection on FPGA, using a MicroBlaze-based SoC and custom hardware IP for thermal image processing.

From March 2023 to November 2023, he served in the Hellenic Army / Special Forces (575 Marine Battalion) as a Reservist Marine (Signal Specialist and Cryptologist). He was responsible for operating and maintaining cryptologic devices, radios, and communication systems. In addition to his primary duties, he handled the main data server for maintenance and operational tasks, and he was promoted from Private to Lance Corporal (LCpl) in the final month of his service.

Since May 2024, Ioannis has been a Ph.D. Researcher at Sorbonne University (LIP6, CIAN Team) in Paris, France, working toward his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical & Computer Hardware Engineering (expected May 2027). His PhD research focuses on Hardware Security and Trust for AI Hardware Accelerators.

His technical background spans hardware design and embedded systems, with hands-on experience in FPGA prototyping, VLSI concepts, fault-tolerant systems, and thermal imaging systems. He works with languages and tools including C/C++, Python, Verilog/VHDL, Xilinx Vivado/Vitis/HLS, and common development workflows (Git, VS Code). He is fluent in Greek (native) and proficient in English (C2).
